Renowned heritage advisor to Auckland City Council George Farrant takes you behind the Rococo-style interior, rock-hewn Indian motifs, seated buddhas, twisted columns and domed ceilings in a fascinating in-depth exploration of this iconic venue.
Oh yes and the elephants too … lots and lots of elephants !
Auckland’s Civic Theatre began her life in 1929 and re-opened after a major reconstruction in 1999. This is her story.
Each tour is a comprehensive, personalised, 3-hour in-depth journey of discovery that is far more detailed than those commonly available to the public.
George tells The Civic Theatre’s fantastical story, shares some of her secrets and provides an insight not just into the great public spaces, but to a parallel universe normally hidden from the public eye. His tour will leave you with an understanding of her history, knowledge of the significant restoration and adaptive change process that took place during the 1990s and leave you with awesome thoughts you can pass on to your own grandchildren.
The tours are FREE but numbers are strictly limited for each tour and background material will be emailed to you prior to the tour. Hence EARLY BOOKINGS are ESSENTIAL.
Please note : Good walking shoes, sound mobility and moderate stair climbing is involved. These tours are unsuitable for young children.
