This exhibition traces the career of one of Napier’s best-known exports - an inspiring woman who went from local stage to global stardom.

Nyree Dawn Porter: From Local Stage to Global Stardom enables you to share her journey - from a teenager growing up in Napier in the 1950’s to international success in theatre, film and television.

She first worked professionally touring with the New Zealand Players and went on to a successful career on the West End and with the National Theatre in London and is best remembered for her leading role in the BBC-series The ForsyteSaga (1967).

The exhibition showcases Nyree’s preserved paintings, photos and newspaper clippings of her success along with excerpts from the Forsyte Saga.

She continued performing right up until her unexpected death in 2001, at the age of 61.
